About this image:
This February morning that I took this image the temperature was 28F. It was cold! A mile and half walk along the Sacramento River took my thoughts away from being cold. Well, sort of, but the walk did warm me up. These falls must be some 50 yards wide. What I am showing you is only about 40 feet of it. The falls are made of lava rock so there are a 1,000 little rivulets of water coming through the porous rock plus all of the water rushing over the top. The river level was kind of low this day, so I set my camera up in the middle of the river on an exposed sand bar. I was only 30 feet from the face of the falls. Being this close meant that the water spray and mist caused my fingers to become ice twigs making it difficult to operate the camera, but not impossible. This is one of my personal favorites. Exposure settings: f45 for 2 seconds. |
